Trainer for Diversity Skills
I am offering the following seminar: „Transcultural Awareness Training“.
Hi y’all! I’m Angela.
I’m originally from the US with a diverse family background. My mom is white with strong ties to our Irish/Scottish heritage, and my dad is Black. I was raised thinking I had significant Indigenous American heritage as well, only to find out through a DNA test as an adult, that I have no blood relation to any of the tribes I was told I came from. I moved to Germany in 2015 to study, and now have my bachelor’s degree in Archaeology. I'm very invested in fighting against racism, discrimination, and inequality, as well as the structures that perpetuate these issues. I’m a PIASTA Alumnal, having coordinated both the Welcome Week once, and the Intercultural PIASTA Evenings for several years. I’ve learned a lot about discrimination since moving to Germany, and working with an international Team at PIASTA, hearing many firsthand accounts of discrimination, as well as experiencing some of my own. On the other hand, I’ve also learned about and experienced a lot of privilege. It’s pertinent to become aware of the discriminatory practices and structures in our world, in order to try and create a better one. Dismantling stereotypes and prejudices, as well as focusing on self-reflection and our own unconscious biases are just some of the ways we can work towards a more world with more equity.
I’m excited to be back with the PIASTA Team, and can’t wait to meet you all!
