Email a complete application form (PDF) to the appropriate advisor at Universität Hamburg's Department of International Affairs. Advisors are listed in the application form; select the advisor for your intended region.

Deadline: (1) open call, ends with the end of the year or with the depletion of funds; (2) applications should be handed in at least 14 days prior to travels to allow for enough time to process the application

Restrictions: one time only funding per person per year

Basic criteria for application are:

• Project aims at initiation or consolidation of collaboration
• Doctoral student or higher
• Employment at Universität Hamburg or at one of the outlined strategic/ key research partner institutions
• Doctoral students and postdocs need the support of the doctoral supervisor or a Professor of the respective field
• In general, aplications from academics from partner institutions must be submitted by their peer at Universität Hamburg

The decision process includes consideration of the following criteria:

• Impact of the project on your own research, the research field, key research areas and areas of potential at Universität Hamburg
• Short- and long-term impact of the project for the partnership
• Strengthening of contacts between Universität Hamburg and its partner institution
• Inclusion of new academic collaborators
• Visibility and community outreach

Approval of the application is dependent on fulfillment of basic application requirements (see Application tab) and budget availability.

Use of Seed-funding:

• For short-term stays (approx. up to 2 weeks) at strategic/ key research partner institutions (outgoing) or at Universität Hamburg (incoming)
• For travel and accommodation costs

Funding amount:

• Following guidelines of comparable programs of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Germany, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
• Funding ceiling for some regions exist (e. g. for North America funding is limited to a maximum of EUR 2,000)

Accounting of funds (Universität Hamburg acadmeics):

• Funding amount offsets with travel expense acccounting (via Travel Management Team at Universität Hamburg)
• Advances may only be paid after official travel-announcement by the funded person to the Travel Management Team

Disbursement of funds (academics from partner institutions):

• Cash payout at Universität Hamburg (Wednesday mornings only; 10 days prior notice required)
• Wire transfer (fees may apply)

Reporting

• Recipients comply to hand in a electronically written report to the Department of International Affairs within 6 weeks after completion of their stay
