Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Mathias KifmannThis course analyzes key features of European health care systems with a focus on the German health care system. Furthermore, the design of social health insurance is examined. In particular, we discuss the problem of risk selection and the interaction of social and private health insurance. |
Health Economic Evaluation and Modelling

Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Tom StargardtThis course lectures on how to conduct health economic evaluation of health-related technologies using cost-effectiveness (CEA) and/or cost-utility analysis (CUA). While the first part of the course focusses on the concepts behind CEAs and CUAs, the second part focusses on modelling using decision-trees and markov models. |

The focus will be on causal inference, heterogeneity and machine learning, in particular how machine learning methods can be used for causal inference. The goal of the course is to give the students a first introduction how machine learning methods can be used in the field of health economics. |

It focuses on empirical evaluations of policy strategies to influence smoking, exercise, alcohol consumption and illicit drug use. Students will also learn and apply microeconometric estimation methods and apply them in class. |
