Good to know:
There are three variants of OpenOlat courses: the conventional course, the learning path, and the course with learning progress. More information can be found in the OpenOlat Help regarding course creation.
You can determine which format is suitable for your event based on the following criteria.
Use of Learning Paths:
- Regular, time-specific activities in the event
- Progression of teaching content
- Learning status display and learning path report for improved participant tracking
- Linear course structure
- Menu navigation without icons
- Control through exceptions
- Suitable for:
- Certification
- Self-learning
- Preparation and follow-up in blended learning
- Refresher courses
Use of Learning Paths with Learning Progress:
- Without a fixed sequence
- With learning progress
- Menu navigation with icons
- Control through exceptions
- Suitable for:
- Self-service courses
- Refresher courses
- Seminars
Use of Courses:
- Content independence of course materials from one another
- Independence from the temporal and content progression of the semester
- Provision of documents
- Information and organization/coordination
- Equal exchange of information
- Working in groups
- More complex course management (access and visibility restrictions)
- Menu navigation with icons
- Control through advanced rules
- Suitable for:
- Self-service courses
- Refresher courses
- Seminars
Disclaimer: Unless otherwise mentioned in the help cards, the term "course" refers to conventional courses. If it concerns learning path courses, this will be explicitly stated.
Existing conventional courses can be converted into learning path courses. During the conversion, a copy of the course will be created. Additionally, the learning path course cannot be converted back into a conventional course.
