Enrollment "Hamburg procedure"
This information is relevant for applicants who have received an offer of admission.
The enrollment procedure at Universität Hamburg is usually conducted by post.
At Universität Hamburg your enrollment documents will not be checked for completeness and correctness in advance even if you hand in the documents personally. Please find all necessary information on the documents required for enrollment in our enrollment checklists. Please check your documents carefully using these checklists. The checklists are only available in German.
Documents which necessarily have to be submitted within the enrollment period are marked in color in the checklists.
You can submit the other documents later without jeopardizing your admission. However, handing in documents later may have the consequence that you will not receive your final semester documents (semester certificate, BAföG certificate, semester ticket) until after the beginning of the semester.
Preliminary semester documents
Applicants, who have accepted our offer of admission and already have a German address and have never been enrolled at Universität Hamburg before will receive their student ID number and preliminary semester documents (vorläufige Semesterunterlagen, i.e. preliminary semester certificate, preliminary semester public transport pass, both valid four weeks into the semester) approximately two to three weeks after submitting their application for enrollment.
Parallel to sending off the preliminary semester documents the online payment foms for the semester contribution fee will appear online in STiNE under "Meine Dokumente" ("My documents"). As soon as you submit all required documents for enrollment, your ultimate first semester documents will be send to you before your preliminary documents become invalid.
Applicants with an address outside of Germany will get the access dates to their student's account via email and can pick up their preliminary semester documents at the Service Point after their arrival.
Students already enrolled at the University will keep their previous student ID number and do not receive any preliminary documents. A sample payment form for the semester contribution is available in your STiNE account under "Dokumente" (documents). Please use this, too, if you have only switched programs.
