Program description
Both lawyers and economists need to understand how law and economics interact and shape one another. This interdisciplinary master's program in law and economics therefore focuses on both fields. Students complete the international, one-year (three-trimester) program at a minimum of two of nine cooperating institutions, one of which is Universität Hamburg. Further institutions include universities in Bologna, Rotterdam, Haifa and Mumbai. The program imparts an understanding of the economic consequences of various legal norms and requires students to take courses in the areas of comparative law and economics, economic analysis of contract law, and competition in law and economics, among other fields. Graduates receive a degree from the universities at which they spend at least one trimester, meaning they conclude the program with two or three degree certificates accordingly.
Career prospects
This interdisciplinary and international program qualifies graduates to work in public organizations or multinational law firms as well as to work as corporate consultants.
Program structure
Three types of courses are offered every trimester:
- courses in economics,
- courses in comparative law and
- courses in law and economics.
The respective institutions agree upon course content for the first two trimesters. Depending upon the institution, students can specialize in their third trimester by taking different courses. Individual universities also offer their own areas of specialization. Classes have a maximum capacity of thirty students, allowing for intensive supervision.
