There are several advising services on campus and throughout Hamburg. Do not hesitate to seek help early—the staff at all of these services are happy to help you with your questions. Whether you have a minor problem such as a lost semester public transport pass or a larger concern such as changing your degree program or handling a legal matter, you can find help here:
Advising at the Department of International Affairs
- Advising on residential matters
The Department of International Affairs offers advice and support to international students on residential issues. Contact us by email ( international-student-support"AT"uni-hamburg.de)or book an appointment for advising online. - PIASTA—support for international students
At PIASTA, international students can access legal support in matters pertaining to residancy law. - Advising on merit scholarships or degree completion grants for international students at Universität Hamburg
International students at Universität Hamburg not eligible for the federal student loan scheme can apply for a merit scholarship during their studies and a degree completion grant during the final phase of their degree. The federal state provides most of the funding for these. There is no legal entitlement to funding. - Information and advising on studying abroad
Universität Hamburg has numerous university partnerships with institutions abroad. Students can apply to study abroad for one or two semesters. The Erasmus Cooperations Team and the Outgoing Students Team offer information and advice.
Information and advice on campus
- Application and Admissions Team (Team Bewerbung und Zulassung)
The Application and Admissions Team is responsible for handling the allocation procedure for Universität Hamburg degree programs that are not allocated via Dortmund-based Hochschulstart (responsible for the centralized university place allocation procedure) and also supervises university applicants. The team provides information about the subjects on offer, the eligible degrees (including teacher training programs), and university studies for working people. - Services for Students—Student Affairs Team
The Student Affairs Team is the port of call for students’ general questions. It is responsible for reenrollment and withdrawal procedures as well as for applications for part-time study and academic leave. This is also where you can get your proof of enrollment, replacement proof of enrollment, and more. - STiNE team
For problems with STiNE (e.g., help with missing access data, blocked passwords, etc.) - The faculties’ academic offices
The academic offices in the faculties are the main ports of call for questions about program management, registering for courses and examinations, etc. Staff offer advice on structuring your studies and lend support in, among other things, planning a semester abroad or having external coursework recognized. - Counseling Center for Social and International Affairs
The Counseling Center for Social and International Affairs supports enrolled and prospective students who have social, personal, or financial questions related to their studies. Advisors also help them with questions about residence permits or studying with a disability and offer advice to pregnant students and students with children. - Center for Academic Advising
Are you unsure whether your current degree program is right for you? Are you unsure whether you can change your minor or whether you even want to continue studying? You can take advantage of the Center for Academic Advising’s walk-in office hours to address these and other questions. - Psychological Counseling
The team help students to overcome both personal challenges in their daily life and study-related or psychological problems. - Office for Students with Disabilities and Chronic Illnesses
We are Universität Hamburg’s main contact for prospective students, applicants, and students with disabilities, chronic diseases, or partial impairments. - Office of Advising for Sexual Discrimination and Violence
The Office of Advising for Sexual Discrimination and Violence advises and supports students who have been sexually harassed within the context of Universität Hamburg.
