Sustainable University

Universität Hamburg is devoted to sustainable science and scholarship and its schools have made great strides towards sustainability in research and teaching.

The interdisciplinary Center for a Sustainable University (KNU) is a platform for the development and review of new academic procedures and methods on questions of sustainability.

One of the Center's major responsibilities is to promote academic discourse on the topic of sustainability and to help ensure that issues of sustainability play a significant role in all of the University's programs and activities. 

Sustainability in research, studies and teaching

"Sustainability" is not merely a research topic. It is a concept which should inspire reflection on the meaning of sustainability in academia and the organization of academic programs.

The academic core of the Center is the  post-doc program "Sustainable Future." This program offers fellowships to highly-qualified young scholars after they have received their doctorates, allowing them to conduct independent and interdisciplinary research projects related to sustainability.
