Component A: Intercultural Training
CIC requirement! All candidates have to participate in an intercultural training (minimum duration: two days).
The following institutions at Universität Hamburg offer intercultural training units:
Component B: International Experience
We strongly encourage all participating students to hone
their intercultural competence abroad, e.g. by doing an international
semester. You can get credit for component B by studying abroad, e.g. with the ERASMUS program or direct exchange programs. We also accept international internships (minimum duration: three months) for the CIC. International students can get credit by studying at Universität Hamburg.
- Duration: your stay abroad must comprise at least three months.
- Report:
upon your return, you must submit a report (three pages min), i.e. a
self-reflective analysis of your intercultural experience,
substantiating theory with practical examples.
Students:
- who need to complete this report for the CIC only, please follow the guidelines.
- at
the School of Education, Psychology and Human Movement must submit
their report plus written confirmation from their guest university or
international internship host addressed to Dr. Friederici at the Section Internationalization.
- at
the School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences must submit their
report plus written confirmation from their guest university or
international
internship host to the International Office School of Business, economics and Social Sciences.
- at the Departments of Languages, Literature and Media I + II who
also want to use the report as a Schein equivalent or as an equivalent for a ABK
seminar "Key competence" or "Networked knowledge", please adhere to the
ABK guidelines.
- at
the Departments of Languages, Literature and Media I + II must submit
their report plus written confirmation from their guest university or
international internship host addressed to Dr. Job at the Office for Studies and Academic Professions.
- You
will receive confirmation of submitting the required documents; please
hand over this confirmation plus your personal CIC checklist and
additional certificates during office hours.
Component C: Campus International
We accept proof of intercultural involvement at
Universität Hamburg. You must demonstrate at least 18 hours of
cross-cultural work for a minimum period of one semester.

Component D: Intercultural Studies
This element focuses on international and intercultural topics and language acquisition.Pick two courses/seminars from a broad spectrum of topics! You can either choose two extracurricular lectures and seminars with an international/intercultural emphasis, or select two language courses (other than your degree program language), or a combination of both.
Your language courses and courses/seminars must differ from your degree program, i.e. students in the American studies program cannot submit English language course certificates. Language courses must either be follow-ups or include two separate languages.
Participation certificates sufice. Approved are e.g. classes in Eastern Asian culture or Finnish history. International students may also choose courses in German
culture/history.
