      MYFISH

Maximising yield of fisheries while balancing ecosystem, economic and social concerns

     FACTS

  1. The FACTS project brings together leading European fisheries and university institutes
working on creating the tools for ecosystem based management.
  2. The active involvement of the institutes in the current management provides a means for
the results of the project to feed into management.
  3. The project furthermore includes a network component which ensures a wider dissemination
of methods and results within the marine scientific community.
  4. The objective of the project is to provide insight and quantitative advice on the ecosystem
wide consequences of management actions directly or indirectly related to forage fish.

ECODRIVE

The new ECODRIVE project as well as my work in the frame of the Excellence-Cluster CLISAP is focused on the investigation of climate change on the distribution and trophic interactions of marine exploited populations, involving IBM model development and coupling to 3-D hydrodynamic models. These coupled models will be tested in hindcast mode and run into the future using down-scaled atmospheric forcing data from climate change runs of IPCC.

BASIN

Resolving the impact of climatic processes on ecosystems of the North Atlantic Basin and shelf seas: INtegrating and advancing observation, monitoring, and prediction

Funding: European Union, 6th framework, Specific Support Action (SSA)
Funding Period: 2007

The scale of influence of global change and the added value of co-ordinating the scientific activities of the EU and North American countries to assess, predict, and mitigate the effects on marine ecosystems of the North Atlantic and their services is the justification for the development of the BASIN SSA. An important step towards such a co-ordinated approach is the development ... more

EUR-OCEANS

EURopean Network of Excellence for OCean Ecosystem ANalysiS

Funding: European Union, 6th framework
Funding Period: 2005-2009
Website: www.eur-oceans.eu

EUR-OCEANS aims to achieve lasting integration of European research organisations on global change and pelagic marine ecosystems, and to develop models for assessing and forecasting the impacts of climate and anthropogenic forcing on food-web dynamics (structure, functioning, diversity and stability) of pelagic ecosystems in the open ocean ... more

GENUS

Geochemistry and Ecology of the Namibian Upwelling System

Funding: Funding: Federal Ministry of Education and Research
Funding Period: 2009-2012
Website: will be announced soon

GENUS is a joint research programm that aims to clarify relationships between climate change, biogeochemical cycles of nutrient elements, radiatively active gases, and ecosystem structure in a large marine ecosystem, the Upwelling system of the northern Benguela/SE Africa. This will be pursued by empirical studies into processes and rates of ocean circulation, biogeochemical cycling of nutrient elements between water column, biota and sediments, trophic interactions and energy flows, and a hierarchy of numerical models from regional climate, ocean circulation, ecosystems, and energy flows....more

RECLAIM

reclaim

REsolving CLimAtic IMpacts on fish stocks

Funding: European Union, 6th framework STREP, Contract no.: 044133
Funding Period: 2006-2010
Website
: www.climateandfish.eu

Climate change will impact fisheries resources and challenge managers to develop sustainable exploitation strategies. Knowledge on the impacts of climate on fisheries resources is still fragmentary. RECLAIM will summarize current knowledge, test process understanding, improve predictive capacity and formulate future research hypotheses by examining trophic processes, geographical distributions and essential habitat requirements for marine and shellfish in the NE-Atlantic. A conceptual framework will be developed to ... more

REsolving trophodynamic CONsequences of Climate ChaNge
Cluster Project within “AQUASHIFT”

Funding: German Research Foundation (DFG): JO5561-1, JO5561-2
Funding Period: 2005-2010
Website: www.ifm-geomar.de/?id=1985

RECONN research attempts to understand the impacts of climatic processes such as match-mismatch on the trophodynamic structure and function of the North Sea and Baltic Sea ecosystems by ... more
