Research interests |
| My research interests focus on how ecological and physiological factors affect the growth and survival of marine fish early life stages and recruitment potential of marine fish populations. During the last years I have been analyzing how different physical processes (i.e., upwelling filaments, eddies, island-mass effect) influence the larval fish assemblage of the Canary Islands a highly dynamic environment in the NW African upwelling system. My emphasis has been on intra- and inter-annual differences in early life stages of small pelagics (sardine, anchovy). At the IHF, my research has expanded to include physiological measurements and modelling simulations. The emphasis of this work is on understanding the potential impacts of climate-driven processes on different populations of herring in the North and Baltic Seas through quantifying and modelling physiological thresholds for larval survival. |
