Research interests

Since my graduate studies I have been working on jellyfish - mainly on polyps of scyphozoans. I worked in the laboratory of PD Dr. Gerhard Jarms at the Zoological Institute, University of Hamburg, Germany, where I learned to rear and maintain polyps of different jellyfish species. Starting out with a more taxonomic view, I am now broadening my spectrum by including ecophysiology and ecology of scyphozoans by performing controlled laboratory experiments; whereas respiration and oxygen tolerance, temperature effects on different life stages, as well as feeding and growth are in my main focus. My emphasis here also lies on the small life stages like planulae, polyps and ephyrae of the North Sea.
