 GLOBEC-GERMANY

globec-Germany

Trophic Interactions between Zooplankton and Fish under the Influence of Physical Processes

Funding: Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Contract no.: FKZ 03F0320E
Funding Period: 2002-2007
Website: www.globec-germany.de

Over the last several decades, herring and sprat, but also numerous copepod populations, in the Baltic and in the North Sea have experienced high fluctuations in recruitment and biomass. The project aims for a better understanding of the interactions between zooplankton and fish under the influence of physical processes in order to elucidate the principal mechanisms accounting for the high variability of copepod production and of reproductive success of fishes. The results will form the basis for strategic modelling of the recruitment success of fishes. more

 PROTECT

Protect

Marine PROTECTed areas as a tool for ecosystem conservation and fisheries management

Funding: European Union, 6th framework, Contract no.: SSP8-CT-2004-513670
Funding Period: 2005-2008
Website: www.mpa-eu.net

The aim of the PROTECT project is provide policy advice and develop methodologies to assess the potential of different MPA regimes. Marine Protected Areas will be assessed for their effectiveness to protect sensitive species, habitats and ecosystems from the adverse effects of fishing, to promote the enhancement of vulnerable species or ecosystems and ... more

 BECAUSE

Critical Interactions BEtween Species and their Implications for a PreCAUtionary FiSheries Management in a variable Environment - a Modelling Approach

Funding: European Union, 6th framework TP 8.1, Contract no.: 502482
Funding Period: 2004-2007
Website: www1.uni-hamburg.de/BECAUSE/

BECAUSE investigates the quantitative role of species interactions as a first step towards the implementation of the ecosystem approach into fisheries management. The focus is on simple but critical interactions in the upper trophic levels of marine food webs. This refers specifically to ... more

 CRANGON

Development, Parameterization and Application of a Specific Y/R Model of North Sea Brown Shrimp (Crangon crangon L.)

Funding: German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection
Funding Period: 2005-2008

Though being an important target for the German fishery, relatively few is known about the effects the shrimp-fishery, the future development of temperature regimes, and other predators could have on the North Sea brown shrimp. The project aims to develop a life-cycle yield per recruit model ... more

 UNCOVER

Uncover

UNderstaning the mechanisms of stock reCOVERy

Funding: European Union, 6th framework TP 8.1, Contract no.:
Funding Period: 2006-2010
Website: www.uncover.eu/

UNCOVER is a synthesis program that will develop recovery strategies for EU fish stocks which are outside of safe biological limits. In order to accomplish this, the program will ... more

RECLAIM

REsolving CLimAtic IMpacts on fish stocks

Funding: European Union, 6th framework STREP, Contract no.: 044133
Funding Period: 2006-2010
Website
: www.climateandfish.eu

Climate change will impact fisheries resources and challenge managers to develop sustainable exploitation strategies. Knowledge on the impacts of climate on fisheries resources is still fragmentary. RECLAIM will summarize current knowledge, test process understanding, improve predictive capacity and formulate future research hypotheses by examining trophic processes, geographical distributions and essential habitat requirements for marine and shellfish in the NE-Atlantic. A conceptual framework will be developed to ... more

 RECONN

REsolving trophodynamic CONsequences of Climate ChaNge
Cluster Project within “AQUASHIFT”

Funding: German Research Foundation (DFG): JO5561-1, JO5561-2
Funding Period: 2005-2010
Website: www.ifm-geomar.de/?id=1985

RECONN research attempts to understand the impacts of climatic processes such as match-mismatch on the trophodynamic structure and function of the North Sea and Baltic Sea ecosystems by ... more

ECODRIVE

The new ECODRIVE project as well as my work in the frame of the Excellence-Cluster CLISAP is focused on the investigation of climate change on the distribution and trophic interactions of marine exploited populations, involving IBM model development and coupling to 3-D hydrodynamic models. These coupled models will be tested in hindcast mode and run into the future using down-scaled atmospheric forcing data from climate change runs of IPCC.

EUR-OCEANS

EURopean Network of Excellence for OCean Ecosystem ANalysiS

Funding: European Union, 6th framework
Funding Period: 2005-2009
Website: www.eur-oceans.eu

EUR-OCEANS aims to achieve lasting integration of European research organisations on global change and pelagic marine ecosystems, and to develop models for assessing and forecasting the impacts of climate and anthropogenic forcing on food-web dynamics (structure, functioning, diversity and stability) of pelagic ecosystems in the open ocean ... more
