to the webpage of the Research Group for “Technology Assessment of Biotechnology in Medicine and Neurosciences” (FG Medicine).
This research group belongs to the Research Centre for Biotechnology, Society and the Environment (FSP BIOGUM). Our work applies the principle of interdisciplinary cooperation and thus committed to research as well as teaching with other faculties at the University of Hamburg, in particular with the faculty of Medicine.

Objective and Task
The objective of this research group’s work is to analyse preconditions, dynamics and implications of biomedical innovation imbedded in its economic, legal and cultural context. It aims for a better understanding of the relation between scientific-technological and social change thus contributing to decision-making challenges of the future.
The main tasks of FG Medicine are notably:
- to explore preconditions, dynamics of development, constraints as well as implications of scientific-technological innovation in Medicine and Neurosciences while looking for technological and social alternatives;
- to develop criteria, concepts and procedures for the evaluation of scientific-technological innovation in the Medical and Neurosciences as well as the implications of their application;
- to realise individual projects for the study of the medical and social consequences of scientific-technological innovation in Medicine and Neurosciences as well as their application,
- Additionally, the FG Medicine works in cooperation with corresponding university courses in the Natural and Social Sciences.
