Beschreibung des Studiengangs

The International Master Program Southeast Asian Studies offers three different tracks or studies:
Indonesian and Malay Studies,
Thai Studies
Vietnamese Studies.
Every track consists of two compulsory modules: “Southeast Asian Languages and Literatures” and “Southeast Asian History and Society.” Students can choose from one of three areas of concentration, all of which are related to the research profiles of the Asien-Afrika-Institut and the Department of the Languages and Cultures of Southeast Asia.

Studienaufbau

The M.A. program consists of two compulsory modules, “Southeast Asian Languages and Literatures” and “Southeast Asian History and Society.” Students can choose from one of three areas of concentration, all of which are related to the research profiles of the Asien-Afrika-Institut and the Department of the Languages and Cultures of Southeast Asia. Our research spectrum includes such diverse fields as manuscript cultures, modern literature, history, religion and society. Graduate research should contribute to departmental research. The compulsory “Southeast Asian Studies: Theories and Methods”
module forges a link between instruction and research.

Zulassungsvoraussetzungen

Admission requirements:

university degree: this may be a Bachelor's degree, a Master's degree or a Licentiate ("Staatsexamen") in Southeast Asian Studies
a minimum of 15 Credit points are required in the fields of Linguistics, Literature, History, Society or Religion of Southeast Asia.
Language skills: a minimum of 25 Credit points (ECTS) in Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian and Malay Studies), in Thai (Thai Studies) or Vietnamese (Vietnamese Studies)
Evidence for proficiency in English (equivalent to B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR))

Application period for the international Master's programmes is February 15 to March 31 for applications for winter semester (starting in October).
