Hamburg Teaching Prize Now Taking Submissions

For the second time, the Hamburg Teaching Prize, which the Office for Science and Research awards annually for outstanding and innovative teaching achievements at Hamburg universities, is taking submissions. The 10,000 euro prize is granted in every faculty. Only students may submit recommendations.

Effective immediately, students can recommend teachers who have made outstanding and innovative contributions to teaching or outstanding individual courses taught by several different instructors. Recommendations must include reasons and a detailed description of the achievements to be recognized. The "Agreement on the Annual Hamburg Teaching Prize" provides information about award criteria, of which as many as possible should be fufilled. Reasons for a given recommendation should comprise a maximum of three printed pages.

In a departure from the deadlines set forth in the agreement, recommendations for this year's prize can be submitted until

19 March 2010

The recommendations and detailed reasons should be submitted to the Vice-dean/Dean of Academic Affairs of the respective faculty.

An internal faculty jury will select two academic staff and/or courses from the recommendations. A cross-university awards jury will choose one prize-winner per faculty based on the nominations. The award ceremony is planned for July 2010.

All students are encouraged to submit recommendations for exemplary teaching in their faculty.
