DSH (German Language Exam for University Entrance) for Winter Semester 2010/11

International students who have been admitted to Universität Hamburg can take the central DSH exam on 21 Sept. 2010 (written) and 20 Sept./1 Oct. (oral). Participation is free.

Werner von Melle Prize 2010

The Hamburg Academic Foundation and the Edmund Siemers Foundation are granting the 10,000 euro Werner von Melle Prize for 2010. This is awarded to people at the University of Hamburg who have made an outstanding written contribution to the topic of "Multilingualism and Cultural Diversity: Problems and Opportunities." Applicants should not be older than 30 and the work must have been completed in 2009/2010. Applicants are encouraged to submit their own work. Invitation to International Summer School Program on Multilingualism

The Hamburg Cluster of Excellence LiMA (Linguistic Diversity Management in Urban Areas) is hosting an international summer school program from 19 to 24 July on "Multilingualism: Transatlantic Perspectives." The program will prepare students for newly-conceived graduate training in "Multilingual Educational Linguistics."
The program targets bachelor and master's students in education and linguistics who are interested in interdisciplinary, global views of multilingualism. The language of instruction is English. Tuition fees are 55 euros per block. If you want to attend both parts of the course, the fee is 95 euros. Application deadline is 31 May 2010.
The second part of the interdisciplinary program on intercultural communication, education and multilingualism (each block is one week) begins on 7 September at the University of Calgary in Canada.   More ...

Call for Hamburg Teaching Award 2010

Effective immediately, students can submit recommendations for the Hamburg Teaching Award. The annual award, which is funded by the Office for Science and Research, recognizes outstanding and innovative teaching at Hamburg universities. The 10,000 € teaching award is granted in every faculty.
Any member of teaching staff who has achieved something special in teaching in 2009 or individual courses conducted by several instructors can be recommended. Reasons must be given for the recommendations, which must also include concrete descriptions of the accomplishments to be considered for the award. The deadline for recommendations is 19 March 2010. Student Parliamentary Elections Underway

As every year, a student parliament (StuPa) is being elected this year to represent students' interests. At the beginning of December, election material was sent by mail and students can vote by mail until 31 December 2009. Student Survey

A sociological research group at the University of Kiel is currently conducting an investigation on students' participation in society. The study is being funded by the German Research Foundation.
The survey targets particularly those students who come from Turkey or a Russian-speaking country, or whose parents or grandparents have emigrated from these countries to Germany.
You can participate anonymously and voice your opinion about the social situation in Germany.
The on-line survey takes about 30 minutes and €50 is being offered to 20 participants as an incentive. Go to on-line survey….

Student Tuition Fees Report 2008

In November 2009, the complete report on the use of tuition fees in 2008 has been published. The report provides basic information about tuition-fee use and distribution guidelines at Universität Hamburg. It also provides information on the individual faculties' books and an overview of information policies on the use of money and future plans to improve conditions in the areas of studying and teaching.
