Promoting Language Skills of School-age Children from Migrant Families: Results from a Model Program

The model program "Promoting Children and Adolescents from Migrant Families - FÖRMIG" ran from 2004 to 2009 in ten German states with the support of the federal government. The Institute for International and Intercultural Comparative Education at the University of Hamburg followed the project under the direction of Prof. Dr. Ingrid Gogolin, who is all the project's spokeswoman. Initial results and products are now available: new procedures for language diagnosis, methods for testing educational quality in multi-cultural schools and insights into school instruction which successfully promotes language acquisition.
