Department of International Affairs closed for Christmas holidays

The international office will be closed from Monday, 22 December 2008 to Friday, 2 January 2009.

DAAD Prize for outstanding academic achievement of international students

Although chiefly an award for academic excellence, the Prize is also an acknowledgement of remarkable social or cultural engagement on the part of an international student, preferably selected from among the circle of those who have reached an advanced stage ijavascript:void(0);top.bottomOff();n their studies. Hamburg Student Wins Australian Scholarship

Julia Schumann, Uni Hamburg student, is the recipient of a 5000 EUR La Trobe Study Abroad Scholarship from GOstralia! for her upcoming stay at La Trobe University, Melbourne. GOstralia! represents a number of Australian universities in Germany; its services range from advising students on studying in Australia to the procurement of study spots at Australian universities. GOstralia!'s scholarship program is very competitive; Ms. Schumann's excellent academic record as well as her personal motivation for her study abroad plans gave her the winning edge.

Changes in German Requirements for Studying at the University of Hamburg

Logo: TestDaFInternational applicants need to have very good German skills. More... The Dept. of International Affairs recommends that all applicants take the TestDaF-Prüfung. TestDaF - Test für Deutsch als Fremdsprache – is a standardized language test offered 6 times per year worldwide. Five licensed TestDaF centers are located in Hamburg. Please note the test and registration dates!

NEW: Buddy-Net for international students

The Faculty of Law has established a Buddy-Net in order to promote exchange between German and international students. Through this program, an international student is teamed with a student contact partner, i.e., a buddy, who can help with questions and problems. More information avalible for German and international students. This support service is open to all international students in all subjects at the University of Hamburg!

Good News for Foreign Graduates of German Universities

In the federal cabinet’s decision from Sept. 19, 2007, access to the labor market for foreign graduates of German higher education institutions, regardless of major, is to be improved. The past system of investigating whether equally qualified German citizens were available to fill an open position before hiring a foreign applicant (the so-called ‘Vorrangsprüfung’) will be abolished.
