Es werden Kohlenhydrate synthetisiert, die Schwefel anstatt Sauerstoff im Furanose- oder Pyranose-Ring enthalten. Sie weisen teilweise auch bicyclische Strukturen auf. - Die entsprechenden Thionucleoside werden im Hinblick auf pharmakologische Wirksamkeit synthetisiert.
