Humboldt Professorship for the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hamburg
The neurobiologist Prof. Dr. Joachim Herz has been granted Germany's highest international research honor
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has announced the final two Humboldt professorships for 2009. One of the winning recipients is the neurobiologist Prof. Dr. Joachim Herz, world-renowned neurobiologist and a specialist for research on Alzheimer's. He will receive the five-million euro international award for research in Germany. The award is funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research.
Following the successful appointment negotiations, Joachim Herz will become the Department Director at the Center for Molecular Neurobiology Hamburg at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. He will continue to pursue research in the field of molecular receptors.
The Alexander von Humboldt Professorship distinguishes leading researchers active abroad. They are expected to pursue long-term and future-oriented research at Germany universities. Currently, Dr. Herz is working at the University of Texas in The United States.
"I am delighted that the Foundation accepted our recommendation of Prof. Herz for the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship in the Faculty of Medicine. I wish the UKE great success in the further expansion of their internationally-recognized focal research area of molecular biology, whose scientists cooperate closely with other faculties at the University of Hamburg," said the Acting Deputy Vice President Prof. Dr. Gabriele Löschper.
